RODENT EXCLUSION SERVICES ACROSS CONNECTICUT AND WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

Do you struggle with rodents infiltrating your home year after year? Pest problems are more than just a nuisance – they are a health and safety risk too. Over time, many homes and buildings develop cracks, holes, crevices, and other entry points that allow rodents inside. Sometimes, these access areas are so small and unassuming that you might not even know they are contributing to your pest problems. We can help identify these areas and seal them off, providing a long-term preventative solution.

What is RODENT Exclusion?

Exclusion is the process of finding and eliminating openings for rodents to enter through. It is the future of rodent control with a focus on environmentally sound prevention methods that reduce the need for baits or traps.

How Does RODENT EXCLUSION Work?

exclusion services to prevent mice from getting in
Before & After - Caulking application to entry point.

The exclusion process all starts with an inspection. Our specialized exclusion technicians will inspect the exterior of your home or structure to locate as many probable entry points as possible. We will focus on entry points around the lower exterior perimeter including pipes, wires, kitchen vents, mechanical and boiler rooms. These are the areas that rodents, such as mice, are most likely to gain access.

Once the entry points have been identified, our professionals will determine the best method of securing the area to prevent mice from getting in. The most common methods of sealing these entry points are steel wool or copper mesh, silicon caulking, specialized dense spray foam, or screening off larger areas with hardware cloth. It is imperative that a thorough inspection is done on the property to ensure the success of the exclusion.

During an inspection, we will photograph areas of the structure and provide you with a report outlining our findings. We also include a customized estimate to let you know what it would cost for Richland to perform the exclusion service. Additionally, we evaluate your property to locate things that may be attracting pests, such as mulch, food, water, trash compost, etc. Your report will include personalized recommendations for things you can do to help make your property less hospitable for pests.

Some of the most common places rodents can gain entry are:
    • Holes or cracks in the foundation

    • Loose, cracked, warped, or missing siding

    • Gaps under entry or garage doors

    • Openings around pipes or wires where they enter the home

    • Gaps or crevices around loose or damaged door or window trim

    • Open corners or junction points where decks, porches, or additions are attached to the foundation

    • Any other opening or gap that is the size of a dime or larger

What makes Exclusion Better Than Other Pest Control Methods?

Exclusion offers a more permanent solution for rodent problems, including mice, rats, squirrels, and chipmunks. Blocking out rodents is the first line of defense against future infestations. However, it’s important to remember that exclusion is a preventative service, so it will not be effective unless you remove existing populations first.

What About Wildlife?

The methods we use to keep mice out of your home also help to keep larger wildlife out! We can screen off the underside of your deck, shed, or outbuilding to keep local wildlife from taking up residence.

What is the exclusion process like?

Exclusion services are tailored to your property’s specific needs. If you have a current rodent infestations, we will begin with reactive treatments before taking any proactive measures. This is because mice nest inside the structure, therefore, it’s necessary to remove the current infestation before using preventative methods such as exclusion or repellents. Once the infestation is removed it is best practice to implement exclusion and repellent tactics right away to prevent future infestations from becoming established in the structure. Note: Since rats tend to burrow outside of structures, unlike mice, it is reasonable to execute exclusion and repellent strategies early in the treatment program or as the basis of your rat control program.

Before completing your service, Richland will perform a thorough exclusion inspection and will go over what we do, why we do it, and what to expect. We know it is important to protect your property and family – which is why we will always be thorough and transparent.
